Charlie Bear Sylvia

By Miki de Goodaboom (Text & Illustration)

My Teddy Truffle McFurry and me have been kindly invited by the international magazine “Teddy Bear Times” to write an article about our visit to the Charlie Bear Museum in Launceston (Cornwall, UK) in May 2018.

It was my birthday as we -Truffle, my partner the English Rocker Kev Moore and me- visited the museum. It couldn’t have been a better thing to do that day!

I had also the chance to be allowed to choose one of the Charlie Bears displayed in the shop there… a birthday gift from Kevin! As it is written on the wall of the museum

“THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR ONE MORE BEAR”

More accurately in this case: “… FOR ONE MOORE BEAR!”  🙂

I chose Sylvia… not a typical Charlie bear, I would say, without the long hair everywhere, but such a beautiful pink bear!

I won’t tell more about that visit for now, as it will be all said in the article, coming up at some point next year. I first need to paint all those amazing bears!

Wilfra Cakes For Bua And Truffle McFurry

by Miki de Goodaboom

You saw it probably, Ann La Mar recently baked Wilfra cakes from Ripon and shared them with us here. They looked gorgeous!

Truffle wanted to try them and Ann was so kind to send him some. Under the pretext too of needing help by the quality control.

Truffy invited his cousin Bua to share them with him, as Bua was with us as we visited Ripon during our Tour Of Yorkshire in September 2016. We were delighted to see him again and to share Ann’s cakes and apple with him. Bua looks always a bit sad, but he is not sad. He is originally a German bear, and he tends to think too much, and always gets that expression on his face when he thinks…

You might wonder how we do it… but we, The Urso Majors, have invented another kind of internet, where we can send each other not only words, but also food, drinks, bears, etc… It works fantastically! But it is not a world wide web, it works only between Planet Goodaboom and Planet Boomerann’.

Winnie Wimbledon In Thirsk

By Ann La Mar

(Illustration by Miki de Goodaboom, partly based on a photograph by Ann la Mar)

I first saw Winnie on the Internet, she was so cute and had such a sweet face. We, the other bears and I decided we would like her to come and live with us on Planet Boomerann. She lived on the south coast of England so arrangements were made for her travel to Yorkshire.

We waited and waited, days became weeks and still Winnie didn’t arrive. I checked with the lady at her previous home but she hadn’t gone back there. By this time we were very worried. I knew Winnie had been to that place called ‘ the Royal Mail sorting office’ full of conveyer belts and big baskets of mail. I think poor Winnie had been dispatched to Wimbledon in London. This would have made her happy because she had big dreams of becoming a tennis champion.
We were so sad and downhearted that Winnie was lost that Miki and Truffle decided to look for her. Some weeks later a surprise package arrived and to our delight there was Winnie. Miki and Truffle had found her and sent her home from her adventures. We were over the moon.

Winnie has settled into Yorkshire life but she is always up to mischief with her brothers and sisters so I thought it would be a good idea that she had a hobby. I decided to take her to Thirsk to visit the yarn bombers display. These ladies as so clever knitting amazing things to decorate their town. Winnie loved sitting on the bollard with the Yorkshire rose and a background to match her dress. She was very high up, her ‘head in the clouds’ needless to say not one stitch of knitting has been done!

Little Addition by Miki de Goodaboom

While I was painting Winnie sitting on that lovely bench knitted by the Yarnbombers from Thirsk, in North Yorkshire, a little bear with a blue bow came around. He looked at Winnie, looked at the free place next to her and then asked her if he might sit there next to her.

“Of course you may!’, she said in a quite posh way. “I am Winnie Wimbledon… and who are you?”
“Hello Winnie… I am BlueBow, and I come from Richmond.”
“From Richmond? It is quite a distance! Have you come walking, all alone?”
“No, there are others like me, we came in a bus to see the Yarnbombers decorations!”

And they went on and on and on… Teddy bears have always so much to tell each other!

Modelling For The Yorkshire Cap

By Truffle McFurry

Auntie Ann asked me if I could model for the Yorkshire cap, and how much it would cost. Well, she asked my Mom, because I am under age. We said yes, and it costs nothing of course, you don’t make family pay when you help them. I was so proud to be asked!

For the modelling my Mom asked me to stand straight and look serious. I can’t stand straight, my legs are too wobbly, I have got no bones inside of them. But without the bones, I am very elastic, I can sit and cross my legs, that looks cool too.

So here I am, with the Yorkshire cap on my head and a matching bow around my neck. I had to squeeze my ears under the cap, so that you know, in case you wonder where they have gone.

I am glad the modelling is finished, it was so hot under the cap. That is tough in our Andalusian desert! Now that I have had a bit of Yorkshire on top of my head, I feel a bit more like a Yorkshire guy, just missing the whippet pet!

Bye for now, take care!

The Story Of Ramble The Travel Ted

By Kev le Chat

It was dark…everywhere. And everywhere didn’t seem to be very big at all.
He pressed his paws this way and that…he couldn’t even stretch his little furry body out properly
Not really. And Ramble was a very small bear, it has to be said.

He couldn’t remember much before being in the Dark Everywhere, but as he thought about it,
He realised he’d probably fallen into his suitcase, and banged his head. He knew his name of course,
It would be a bit daft if he forgot that, and he knew he had a suitcase, because that was what the Dark Everywhere was, he was sure of that. He seemed to remember that he really liked to travel.

But…what now?

He felt a thud, and felt someone or something fiddling with the latches. He was feeling a bit stressed to be honest as sunlight poured in and some crazy creature screamed at him:
“Ooooooohhhhh! Aren’t you ADORABLE??”

Well, of course I am – thought Ramble, a little cross. I mean, it’s traumatic being released
From the Dark Everywhere without being screamed at by a lunatic.

He looked at his surroundings….he seemed to be sat in a window, there was lots and lots happening on the other side of it. Shiny metal boxes in many different colours rolling this way and that on wheels, with Yoomans inside. He seemed to have a vague recollection of Yoomans. He realised the creature who screamed at him was a Yooman too.

In fact, there were Yoomans everywhere, walking to and fro on the other side of the window, it was very interesting indeed. Some were stuffing things in their faces, some were carrying enormous bags, but everyone seemed to have somewhere to go.

This went on for days and nights. Ramble got a bit bored with the window in the night, because all he could see was a reflection of himself, so he would hop out of his suitcase and play with some of the other bears that seemed to be dotted around the place. Some of them looked a bit sad. Ramble asked one of them, a funny tatty little orange thing – why that was.
“Nobody buys us” said the orange bear. “Some of us have been here for months”.
“What do you mean ‘buy you?’ “ asked Ramble, a bit confused.
“ You’re a bit thick, for a well-travelled bear, aren’t you?” said the Orange bear a little unnecessarily, to Ramble’s way of thinking.
“You’re a TOY! Someone needs to buy you so you go to a good home!”
I’m a bear, you idiot, thought Ramble, though he was far too polite to say it. He ambled back to his suitcase and flopped down in it until morning.

The next day, the street was busy again, shiny boxes – cars, as he had now learned they were called were vrooming and honking up and down the street, and there were people everywhere, though to Ramble’s mind they all looked a bit grey…
Then he saw this very strange thing across the road…he had a wild mass of black hair, almost like a bear and was wearing really weird clothes and a brightly coloured scarf.
“What’s THAT!?” exclaimed Ramble, to no one in particular.

He was a bit panicked now, the hairy weird thing was coming across the road to his side!
I hope he doesn’t break the glass, he thought.

Ramble needn’t have worried about that. Ramble’s eyes grew wide as the hairy yooman peered through the window at him.
Ramble was about to explode with terror when something amazing happened….the yooman’s face broke into the biggest smile
The little bear had ever seen! It filled his heart!

Then, the Yooman disappeared from view! Don’t go….thought Ramble…
But a moment later, the dingaling went! Ramble knew the dingaling, it meant someone was coming in the shop!
And then there he was talking with the Screaming Yooman who ran the shop, and pointing…at him!

He looked down at Ramble and said the words Ramble would never forget:
“You’re WONDERFUL! And you’re coming home to Spain to live in our bear house where you will have lots of friends who will love you!”

Ramble thought his heart would burst! He was going on a travel adventure, and he was going to be loved!

Winnie The Pooh In Fowey

By Kev Le Chat

While we -Mki de Goodaboom, Truffle McFurry and me- were in Fowey, Cornwall recently, we came across this beautiful antique Winnie the Pooh bear.

I’m not a fan of the stylised Disney bear version which always looks superficial to me, but there was something about this one, sat forlornly in a window that exuded a certain tender gravitas and sweet melancholy, something that spoke of A.A.Milne.

It’s the best Winnie the Pooh I’ve seen!

Love Is In The Air!

by Truffle McFurry

Hallo Teddy bear lovers around the world!

Last year I went travelling  with my parents in Wales. You don’t know where is Wales? It is a little country on the same island as England, and it is very lovely. My Mom Miki de Goodaboom always wanted to go there to paint, and so one day my Dad, the English rocker Kev Moore, took us there.

They say it is so lovely and so green there because it rains all the time. But we took with us our Spanish sun and we had a beautiful weather. We were so happy!

Somewhere, I don’t remember where, we saw a Teddy bear and a mouse. I think they were about to marry, The mouse looked very smart in her red dress and with the flowers in her hand, but the groom was quite naked, apart from a bow around his neck. Perhaps this is how they marry in Wales. It is so different everywhere!

Anyway I asked my Mom to paint them, as they are so cute. She started but then stopped, saying she had more important things to paint. Really , I am asking you:

What is more important than teddy bears???

She says:

“Well, Truffy, if it is that important, why don’t you paint them yourself?”

Well, I am very busy too. all the time. And I can’t paint like her… even if she says I am quite talented.

Yesterday, she was a bit doing nothing , so I told her she should finish the bear and the mouse.  I never give up, me. I am a bit like her in those things. And she did!

Take care

Gollies In Truro In Cornwall

By Truffle McFurry

Hallo everybody, Truffle McFurry here!

I am sorry that I was not writing very much in “Go Teddy”… I was so busy, travelling and writing a book! I will tell you about the book soon.

With my parents, the French artist Miki de Goodaboom and the English rocker Kev Moore, we went on a painting trip to Devon and Cornwall in England. it was fabulous! Mom and Dad came back very big, as they were having cream teas all the time, with tons of cream!

We saw many Teddies, because they love Teddies so much in England. But today it is not about Teddies, it is about The Gollies. I know they are a species in danger, but I have decided to take them under my protection the first time I saw one. It was Auntie’s Ann Golly, from when she was a little child. We are the best mates now. it was Auntie Ann who told me about them in danger.

In the lovely town of Truro in Cornwall, we met 3 Gollies. I asked my mom to paint them to show everybody how beautiful they are!

If you love the Gollies too, join us please!

Love you all

My First Advent Calendar

By Truffle McFurry

I am so over the moon!

This year my parents have decided that I should have an advent calendar! So my Dad went to the nice big shop downstairs, “Home Sweet Home”, that shop where he had  adopted me almost 5 years ago now. And he got me a beautiful calendar, with a fabulous Santa on it and all the 24 doors.

So today I put on my nice Christmas cardigan, it was a gift from my Grand-Ma last year.  And then we three sat around the calendar and we opened the first door. It was a very important ceremony, and we took all the time of the world to do it.

Behind the door there was a very cute chocolate snowman. Better than what was behind Auntie Ann’s door: she got a Minion!

There was also the letter H, and a picture of a reindeer in the snow. It is very nice. I don’t know what the letter “H” means… perhaps it means “Happy”? I am certainly very HAPPY! Can’t wait to open the next door tomorrow!

Love you all
